Helping edX put education into 30 million learners’ pockets

As edX’s official tech partner, Arbisoft helped them put education at their learners’ fingertips through Web and, Android and iOS apps that enabled students to take courses on the go. The apps were designed to allow students offline study options through full video downloads–so they could keep up with classes even without continued Internet access.

iOS, Android & Web

We are a full-stack development partner that helps edX educate people around the world

Watch what Mark Haseltine, ex-CTO, edX and his team has to say about their experiences working with Arbisoft teams for mobile, quality assurance, support, analytics and web.

In 2012, edX was founded by Harvard University & MIT to provide high-quality courses online. These Massive Online Courses, or MOOCs for short, needed a platform that was intuitive, robust, and accessible to learners all over the world.

This software required the creation of an infrastructure that enabled teachers to post materials while also allowing students to access those materials from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.

We created their web, iOS and Android infrastructure including studio, discussion board, student exam, grading and analytics. Arbisoft also provides end-to-end Open edX services: deployment, customization and branding, support, hosting and maintenance.

Wanderu is a ground travel metasearch engine and fare aggregator operating in 40 countries throughout North America and Europe and cited by prestigious media such as Fast Company, Forbes, Inc, and TechCrunch as a promising startup for a whole new generation of travelers. Since 2016 Arbisoft and Wanderu have partnered together to make it easy to manage road and rail bookings in a few clicks.

Arbisoft and Wanderu began a relationship focusing on mobile development. Wanderu turned to Arbisoft for help after they were unable to find iOS engineers with the right mix of engineering skills; so they incorporated our engineers into their in-house team and worked as a cohesive unit. Thanks to our mobile engineering team, Wanderu launched an iOS app enabling travelers to search online schedules, make bookings, and calculate fare for trips on the move. We also used Twisted, Treq, and Scrapy to integrate the Wanderu API with Carrier API which allowed the app to access listings from a wider range of road and rail carriers, along with writing custom code to allow location mapping.

Currently rated 4.5 stars, its app has been awarded “Favorite New App” by Time Magazine, “Best Travel App of 2015” by PC Magazine, and is listed in several top categories on the App Store–including Best New App and Featured Travel App. Our contributions have helped Wanderu extend its services to include a much bigger list of supported carriers, increasing its value to users and helps it differentiate itself in the travel management app startup space.
Our team of engineers — working closely with Wanderu’s internal team — has been able to create a substantial business impact by helping them bring on more partners at a faster pace. Arbisoft’s software has shortened the time between signing a partner and getting them live on the site, which is incredibly important for a new startup scaling to make big.
